City Of Greenup

Welcome to the City of Greenup. This website is designed as a roadmap for our citizens and visitors to guide them through the many attributes and services of our city. We invite you to explore and discover all the many wonderful qualities that make the City of Greenup, a great place to work, play and call home.

The City of Greenup has a long and storied past. Greenup is named after the 3rd Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Christopher Greenup. Our city is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Sandy Rivers. We are also the county seat for Greenup County and home to the historic Greenup County Courthouse conveniently located at 314 Main Street. Greenup is also the home to many historic churches and buildings.

At the heart of it all is the Greenup City Building. Centrally located at 1005 Walnut Street, our City Building provides our residents and visitors with a multitude of services. Our Mayor, Council, and City Clerk all work from this one location. Council meetings are held here, and we are always glad to welcome public participation.

This is also the headquarters for the City Police Department. Our Chief and officers are here to help and offer assistance. The Police Department may be reached by telephone at (606) 473 – 6414 for non-emergency needs or questions.

The Greenup Water Department is also located in the City Building. Here you can pay your bill, sign-up for new service, make changes to existing service, or inquire about your account. The water office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm. We also offer automatic bank draft and on-line bill pay for your convenience. For more information, please call (606) 473-7331 during regular business hours.

The City of Greenup is proud of the volunteers who dedicate their time and skills to be part of the Fire Department. We understand and appreciate the great sacrifice each and every member makes in an effort to make our city a safe place for our residents and visitors. Whenever the siren goes off, we should always be mindful that these courageous men and women are risking their personal safety so that another may be saved.
